A bareboat charter means you take the whole yacht without crew and sail it yourself. It requires documented experience and a skipper in the group who can handle the boat and the conditions. In Northern Norway that means tide, fall wind and few marinas.
For experienced sailors, bareboat charter covers the entire Northern Norwegian coastline. Choose from our fleet and chart a route through the peaks of Lofoten, the island-dotted waters around Tromsø, or the fjords of Senja.
Our bareboat fleet includes yachts from 35 to 50 feet, equipped for Arctic conditions: heating, radar, AIS, chartplotter, and safety equipment including a life raft, EPIRB and flares.
Chartering in Northern Norway requires solid sailing experience. Weather can change quickly, tidal currents can be strong, and some anchorages require careful navigation. We ask for a minimum Day Skipper certificate, or equivalent experience, and a logbook of offshore passages.
Charterers receive a cruising guide with GPS waypoints, harbour approach notes and local knowledge gathered over years of Arctic sailing. We also give a briefing on local conditions, weather patterns and emergency procedures before every charter.
The most popular charter routes are Tromsø to Lofoten (ten days), a Tromsø round trip via Senja (seven days), and Tromsø to Lyngen and back (seven days). Bareboat charter also allows for a custom route.
Charter season runs from May to September. Peak season is June to August, when the midnight sun gives 24-hour daylight and weather is at its most stable. May and September offer quieter conditions, lower prices, and a chance to see the northern lights.

A Svalbard sailing expedition runs from Longyearbyen between June and September, when the fjords are largely ice-free and the sun does not set until late August. Voyages of one to two weeks reach tidewater glaciers, walrus haul-outs and bird cliffs, under Sysselmesteren regulations and AECO guidelines.
Northern lights sailing means using the boat to move away from town lights and cloud. Tromsø lies at 69.6°N, under the auroral oval, and the season runs from late September to late March. A boat can shift anchorage overnight to find the clearest sky.
