Life on the Water
Moments captured from our Arctic sailyacht expeditions across Lofoten, Tromsø, the Lyngen Alps and Svalbard — from quiet anchorages under the midnight sun to humpback whales lunging through silver winter seas.
Every photograph in this gallery was taken aboard one of our sailyachts in Northern Norway or Svalbard — by our skippers, guides and guests. There are no stock images, no staged shots and no AI compositions. What you see is exactly what a week with Boreal Yachting looks like: the long blue hours of polar twilight, granite peaks rising straight from the fjord, orcas slicing through herring shoals, and the quiet ritual of pulling the anchor at dawn.
The Arctic sailing season tells four very different stories. Winter (November–February) belongs to the Northern Lights, deep snow on deck and the herring-chasing whales of the fjords near Tromsø. Spring (March–May) is the season of Ski & Sail in the Lyngen Alps — corn snow, blue skies and 18-hour days that end with skinning back down to the boat. Summer (June–August) is the time of the midnight sun, hiking in Lofoten, swimming off white-sand beaches, and our high-Arctic Svalbard expeditions with polar bears, walruses and tidewater glaciers. Autumn (September–October) brings the first auroras, golden tundra and the start of the orca and humpback season.
Look closely and you'll spot recurring details: the warm light of a saloon after a long day on deck, mugs of hot chocolate in mittened hands, a single set of footprints on a beach no one else will visit that year. The yachts themselves — Bavaria 51s, Hanse 458s, OVNI 455s and our Delphia fleet — appear in the background as much as the landscape: silent platforms that make these places reachable without compromising on comfort.
If a photo here speaks to you, it was taken on a trip you can actually book. Most of these moments happen on our scheduled Join a Trip departures, on private skippered charters, or on bareboat weeks for experienced crews. Tell us which images resonate and we'll build an itinerary around them.
