Glaciers and polar bears, the land of the north is awaiting!

Close to the North Pole you find the cluster of islands kalled Svalbard.
With only one city, around 2000 inhabitants and 3600 polar bears this is the real wilderness.

FROM 74° TO 81° NORTH

Right in the middle of the Arctic Sea, between the Norwegian mainland and the North Pole, you will find a special gathering of islands; Svalbard. The only natural way to move around in the Svalbard and Spitsbergen islands is the sea way. Boreal Yachting has therefore equipped 4 of our sailing yachts specially for Svalbard expeditions.
Svalbard has a long history of whaling and hunting and has always had a very important political role between the lands of the north so you will find all sorts of interesting stories around on this island. It is also one of the most exciting and exclusive skiing destinations in the world and quite different from almost everything else.
Crossing the Norwegian Sea / Barents Sea as well as sailing in the Svalbard region requires that the crew, skipper and yacht are well prepared. With many years of experience from sailing in the region, we welcome you to experience this fantastic arctic area. In addition, we help you to plan and organise for a safe and secure trip on an individual basis.

There are almost twice as many polar bears as people, and you will find walruses, foxes and much more animal life during your stay.  We visit historical places and experience nature at its wildest sailing between glaciers and enormous floating icebergs.
Boreal Yachting have been operating on Svalbard with sailing vessels for a number of years. We are a part of AECO with the main goal to preserve and protect the vulnerable arctic in a sustainable way which allows us to still enjoy the wilderness and wildlife undisturbed. We hope and belive we are well acknowledged in the marked and among the locals as a company that takes our guests wellbeing and safety at the highest level. We have arranged sail expeditions on Svalbard for over a decade. Our knowledge will ensure you the trip of a lifetime.

WILDLIFE

Svalbard’s wildlife consisting of a few but very special species of birds and mammals. Here you may find the majestic polar bear, arctic foxes, reindeer, walrus, seals, whales and numerous number of birds. You will also find a surprisingly rich flora consisting of hardy and dedicated flowers and plants.

CITIES

Longyearbyen is is the world’s northernmost settlement over 1000 inhabitants and the main city on Svalbard with 2500 living there. The Russian mining city Barentsburg have around 500 inhabitants and the research station Ny Ålesund hosts 120 scientist over the summer, while one 30 stay all year round.

SEASON

The season on Svalbard is short, but beautiful. We start in the beginning of May with Ski & Sail tours, summer charters from June with the return of spring thru out the endless days of summer before ending late in September.

FOOD

Food supply on Svalbard can be limited, especially fresh ingredients, however it will not prevent us from serving high quality courses based on the best available supplies. All meals will be prepared and served on board.

ENVIROMENT

The environment of the Arctic is under constant treat from climate changes, pollution and human activties. We strive to make sure our presence in this vulnerable environment leves no footprints and has a zero impact on wildlife and the land.

Svalbard has a long history of hunting, reserarching and is the natural starting point for any arctic expedition. You will still find the remains of this vast past around the islands. All historical sites are protected and nothing must be changed or removed, however a visit to the northernmost “5 star hotell” Loyds Hotel is a must.

DEDICATED CREW

All of our crew members are passionate about the Arctic. It is our mission to share this very special and exclusive area with our guests with respect and admiration in a safe and enjoyable way.

SKIPPER

All our skippers are commercially certified and crew undergo extensive training in order to give you a comfortable, safe and enjoyable ride. All our Svalbard skippers have additional training especially for sailing in arctic waters.

GUIDE

We value your safety at the highest and therefor all groups must be accompanied by a guide. We are happy to arrange a local  experienced and certified guide if the group does not arrange for one them selvs.

POLAR BEAR PROTECTION

There are 3600 polar bears on Svalbard and they do provide an extensive risk. All groups must, whenever on land, have a minimum of one weapon with them. The guide must be well trained and well experienced in handling a firearm in advance of the expedition.

Aleiga is a 45.5 feet aluminium yacht with raising centerboard. Onboard you will find 4 double cabins, 2 of them with single berths. A boat of highest quality fully equipped for the arctic elements that awaits.
