The Lyngen Alps combine glaciated peaks with a 90-kilometre ridge rising directly from the fjords. A week aboard a yacht gives a new trail each day, from gentle coastal walks to ridge traverses, reaching terrain that road-based hikers cannot use. The Lyngen Alps run 90 kilometres, rising directly from the fjords. Peaks reach 1,834 metres, and the Lyngen glacier — mainland Norway's northernmost — descends to within a few hundred metres of sea level. The rock is ancient oceanic crust, thrust up by tectonic forces millions of years ago. Our sailing-hiking itineraries reach trailheads with no road connection. The yacht drops guests at a beach or jetty at the base of a mountain, for a walk that follows established trails or, above the treeline, open terrain. The views take in fjords, glaciers and islands together. The hiking season runs from June to September, with the longest days and warmest temperatures in July. Above the treeline the route crosses alpine meadows, passes glacial lakes, and follows ridges with views to the ocean. No two days are the same. One day might be a coastal walk through birch forest to a quiet beach; the next, an ascent of a 1,200-metre peak with scrambling and glacier views.
