# Freediving with Whales: An Arctic Norway Guide

Every autumn, enormous pods of orca and humpback whales follow the herring into the fjords of Northern Norway. Our freediving expeditions bring you into their world — slipping beneath the surface to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Led by experienced guides, this is a life-changing encounter with the ocean's most intelligent beings.

The herring migration draws hundreds of orcas and humpback whales into the fjords around Tromsø and the Lofoten Islands between October and January. The whales engage in spectacular cooperative feeding — bubble-net feeding by humpbacks and carousel feeding by orcas — creating some of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on Earth.

Freediving with whales requires no previous experience. Our guides teach you the basics of breath-hold diving and safe whale interaction. The key is calm, quiet movement — the whales are curious and will often approach divers who remain still and non-threatening.

Water temperatures range from 4°C to 8°C, and we provide high-quality drysuits, masks, and fins. Sessions in the water are typically 20-40 minutes, followed by warming up on the yacht with hot drinks and food. The experience is intense, emotional, and utterly unforgettable.

We follow strict guidelines for whale interaction, maintaining respectful distances and never chasing or harassing the animals. The encounters happen on the whales' terms — and when a 15-metre humpback whale chooses to swim within arm's reach, it's a moment you'll remember for the rest of your life.
